What?! All this planning and you have no Highland dancers?!

Let me remedy that sorry situation and offer my services. I must travel to Appleton sometime in the fall, hopefully said wedding will be soon?

White Roses and Stephanotis for the bouquet, and fanfare trumpeters playing "The Royale" as the bride arrives.

    Kilt Length vs Football Shorts
You might point out that the kilt exposes no more male anatomy than do the football (ie soccer) shorts worn by millions of Pakistani men and boys in Pakistan when playing football, or the shorts worn by athletes representing Pakistan in track and field events at the Olympics. Both come to above the knee, not below it, as do the kilts worn by Pakistani pipers in the army.

But, if your intended refuses to properly wear the kilt, then the answer is simple-- have him wear trews in your family tartan.

While I understand where you are coming from, it's sort of out of our hands what other Pakistanis do in regards to Islamic clothing requirements. I know he'd like to make sure the kilt covers what is meant to be covered, the same way mine will have to as well :)

But I know it would probably bum him out if he had to be left out of kilt wearing just because some people would look down their nose at him for having it mid-knee or right below the knee. I don't care what length it is as long as it makes him happy and he can feel included.

Honestly, I think when it comes to the kilt, he may do the mid-knee length. I think that would be just fine. If he wants to do right above the knee, that might even be allowed. I dont know if the requirement is to underneith the knee or if it's right above. That would be something he would have to find out and then plan accordingly.

Or perhaps you are, instead, setting things in motion.

Wish you good luck and happiness.

Meghan, it's not that people would look down their noses if your betrothed wore his kilt below the knee. I gather he wants, or you want him to wear a kilt to honour your ancestry. In order to honour your ancestry you must also honour the traditions that go with it. Tradition in the case of mens kilt length has never been below the knee.

As you mentioned, you will also have a ceromony in Pakistan, and I guess that you will wear traditional muslim attire at that time. I doubt his family would be very pleased to if you decided to change some the clothing to a non tradtional look while maintaining a desire to honour his ancestry.

Our wedding wouldnt be when he would be kilted. Our Pakistani wedding will be traditional Pakistani. Our American wedding also wouldnt be kilted as that would just be weird for my family. lol. I would maybe wear a tartan sash across my dress but I wouldnt put him in a kilt for that.

We'll find something and we'll make it work.

Again, I dont know if the awra is right above the knee or right below. I will have to ask and then plan accordingly. MY tartan skirt is already fine and dandy and Im the one with Scot/Irish ancestory. I just dont want him to feel left out if he can't represent my culture at stuff. He was sort of looking forward to it.

It's easier being a Muslim woman with this stuff, apparently. My clothing requirements arent going against any traditions. We'll work with his stuff though and make sure he feels included too.
