That is awesome. Tanning hides is no easy task, but then neither is kilt making.

Amazing work from the tanning to the making of the kilt! I covet buckskin, I always have.

That's a nice piece of machinery that you used to make the kilt. Kilt on!

Thanks everyone. Definitely a labor of love.

Ron, I don't think they'd be economically viable. Each hide, tanned sells for $200-250, depending on the quality of the skinning job so I'd have to charge at least $1000.

ChattanCat, I decided a while ago if I was going to make kilts-even just for myself- it was worth it to have a good machine.

Love the fire extinguisher under the sewing table...proof it's an industrial machine.... ;)

Great job. You've really pushed the bar to great new heights for the rest of us DIY types. :-)

Absolutely fabulous. I am impressed how well the pleats stay down. Did you have to pay attention to the "grain" of the hides for preferred folding direction? Hopefully with use, the stiffness sitting down will ease. I most heartily understand the amazing amount of work, but then that is why we do it ourselves.

Congrats on a most awesome kilt. Iv always liked buckskin, but a buckskin kilt is over the top!
