@O'Callaghan: Much more a Carry on up the Kyber kinda guy myself  ( I certainly hope you meant Brigadoon the movie or my joke doesn't quite work).
@tripleblessed: I've been to the Conyers Saint Patrick's Day Parade two years running. I skipped Burns Night as it was on a work night and terribly cold for an Acrylic Kilt. As to Kilt Nights, I simply was unaware the Celtic Tavern had them. I may have to make an appearance one of these days.
@MacGumerait: I would probably go with something from MacDonald Sporrans or USA Kilts Myself, Never ordered from Glenmore. I will have to check them out.
@Angstrom: I have no particular opinion on the feel one way or the other, as I wasn't really raised in a kilt wearing family (shame really what with my maternal family's Scottish heritage and all). That said I noticed that the ones I got from USA Kilts were a tad prickly, If I could find Kilt hose made out of Cotton I would get them instead. (the ones I got were mixed material, still a tad prickly though)

The previous link was for The Scottish Trading Company , they are an advertiser here at the top of the page . I have ordered many items from them , they are reputable . They are located in western Kentucky . Glenmore is the name of the kilt hose .
Cheers , Mike

@Hexdef101, my apologies for lack of clarity, I usually do better. My sentence should have have read: join us for kilt
nights, or at the Tavern, or Burns Supper. Our kilt nights are typically in town, we gather at the Tavern prior to the
Stone Mountain Games, and we're there for Burns Supper. Welcome to all. Additionally some members occasionally
meet at the Tavern for lunch other than kilt nights. Might be possible to put something together that could work for
you to join in. Better to meet the support troops than to be out there in a small town all by your lonesome. Watch
for threads labeled Atlanta kilt nights. I would like to find a time soon to get some folk there, as our traveling monk is
in the area for a little while longer, and as he knows Jim (the scot) from Burns suppers and we don't often get Jim this
far west, the trek out there may be made. One of the Conyers guys is headed to Japan for a while, so we're on a short
clock there.

I may have been traumatized into being a traditionalist on this one. It may also be due to my particular overall style. I will just tell a story to explain why I wear typically fairly heavyweight mostly wool kilt hose or shooting socks or country hose or the like with my kilts, all wool kilts and traditionally built medium or heavyweight tartan.
While on my last trip to Scotland (kilted everyday but one, the infamous "Royal Buffoon" golf gaff trip), while properly kilted with a nice "jumper" and proper hose, flashes, Balmoral, skunk fur sporran and comfy brogues I turned a corner and unexpectedly ran into a nice american plain white bread family, Mom, dad, big teenage sis and tweenage son. Dad and son were clad in ill-fitting generic pattern kilts (poly or acryllic), american western style 1 inch skinny belts over top, white logo tee shirts, no sporrans or kilt pins, Converse Chuck Taylor hightop basketball shoes and vintage 1970's mid calf white with 3 black stripes cotton sports socks, with mom and siss in . This was my last full day "in country", in St Andrews of all places, and after wearing the proper kilt in generally full casual but traditional style for 9 days, seeing the occasional local clad in tartan heading to some event or pipeband practice, or busking on the streets, all looking perfectly fine in that heady environment. I was, well, startlingly taken aback at the jolting out of place look these tourists brought to that penultimately scottish locale.
Yes, traumatic would best describe my feelings after seeing that.

@ForresterModern: I would definitely be horrified at the wearing of those 70's gym Socks with anything, but a few of the things you mention them wearing could work in some situations (the Chuck Taylors, white t shirts). As to the Kilts being ill fitting, this may just be a sizing issue. I wish they would make them in 23 instead of 24, and fix the pleating (generally too wide in the hip for most people). Be aware they may have never seen an authentic kilt before, and may have felt out of place themselves (especially if the had on those terrible Pakistani made "Kilts"). Thin belts never work though. As to them not having Sporrans, I've seen that in pictures from Football matches in the UK, and kilt pins are not absolutely required.
That said just be happy they even wore a kilt, Even if badly worn. That's more effort then many Americans put in already (as well as far too many Scots in my opinion), and maybe they might just upgrade to a better model later on. I would rather see a thousand men in a bad kilt any day, then to see the kilt die out altogether. :)
