The idea of using dried up Christmas trees for walking sticks is fantastic!

Thanks for the idea - if a bit late for this season......Next year though!

Jock, I'm sure that you cut a dashing figure, so it's not surprising that you should have such an effect on traffic! :D

I'm not familiar with that abbey. Is it still occupied?

Oh yes the Abbey is very much in use.General Patton and his team knocked it about a bit,it has been repaired beautifully. As to the crash,it was handy having most of the local police force, fire service, army, navy and airforce at the wedding to assist at the shamozzle. No one was hurt, but Charlie Chaplin could have felt well at home at the scene! The one abiding memory I have, is seeing the chief of police in full uniform directing opperations with sword drawn in the midst of the wreckage!

 A video of that would have been priceless.

Do you happen to know which order occupies the abbey? I can't find it listed in the Benedictine directory.

I am no expert on religeous orders and the Abbey at Avranches just seemed like a giant church to me.At a guess though,I should think it would be connected to the "team" at Mont Saint-Michel which is probably 2 or 3 miles across the water.
