A client in the UK sent me this cloth to make a kilt from. He obtained it from an English supplier named Dashing Tweeds, and this particular one is called "Urban Tweed."

What is unique about this one is that there is a single reflective thread woven into the weft of the cloth. When it catches the light just right, it glows! It's hard to do justice to the effect in a photograph, but that didn't stop me from trying.

I believe my client said he was getting a matching jacket and waistcoat made from the same cloth. Should be an interesting looking outfit!

That is SHARP! The VERY cool fabric lends itself quite well to box pleating.

I had a motorcycle jacket years ago that was made with similar retro-reflective objectives in mind. The fabric was impregated with glass beads that reflected light back to the source. Made the jacket light up BIG TIME, when lit by the headlights of other vehicles on the road. Same idea is used in the grey reflective stripes on road crew safety vests, firefighters' clothing and helmets, EMS, and other people doing road crew or public safety jobs.

I've been eyeing up their stuff for awhile, too pricey to pull the trigger right now. Would love to get a their take on an urban tartan.

I'll often see plaid Christmas blankets at thrift stores, and think to myself how gaudy of a kilt I could - but should never - make out of them.

That's a great looking kilt. Crazy fabric; it'd be excelent for anyone who enjoys nocturnal walks, or somesuch.


...and I epsecially love the belt loops. :wink:
