DFW: Kilt night April 6th
Is anybody up for a kilt night?
Who is willing to show?
Roll Call:
1. Kilted X
-
Sure why not
On National Tartan Day? Sure why not. I had planned to wear mine to work, (I work in the building next to Mockingbird Station and Trinity Hall)
-
If we get most everybody split FW & D, the best option would be to meet in Arlington. Do we split into separate cities or all converage in on a single bar/establishment in Arlington?
-
I go to school at UTA right now. I was trying to think of a pub or bar over there that would work. I should call my buddy who works the Arlington Games every year. They go somewhere close to the games every year for drinks.
-
When are the games this year?
-
-
Yeah and of all the weekends to pick, my wedding Day was June 3rd, 2006. Saturday of the 2006 Arlington Games. And on top of that, Don Shannon, Pipe Major of the North Texas Caledonian Pipe & Drum band was our piper for the wedding. We had pulled him away from the bands afternoon performance, but he reports they did absolutely fine without him.
-
I do not think we have a big kilt community on this board.

Rubbish. I'm sure we can scrape the bottom of the barrel to find some kilties.
I know I could get myself and a friend out to something. I'd be down for a Tartan Day get together. I am located in Dallas, and could easily get to Arlington for whatever.
-
As far as I can tell at this point, I'll be available.

If we're scraping the barrel can it least be a Whiskey barrel?
My friend in Arlington suggested J Gilligan's. It's an Irish themed place, but he says you can't beat their "Irish Nachos". It's off Abrams.
There is a small British themed place right on Abrams within walking distance of UTA.

Well, I'm east of Dallas, so Dallas itself would work for me... but I might be able to make it to Arlington... of course the 6th is 2 days before Easter... and given my line of work it might be difficult to make it out... I'll do what I can though.
-
With 4 votes for Dallas, is the location moving away from Arlington? We do have Sherlock's at Park & 75, or Trinity Hall at Mockingbird Station, or Sherlock's/Flying Saucer in Addison.
How did the last kilt night go?
-
The last kilt night was at Trinity Hall . . . combination of GreatKiltedRob and I from XMarks, and some folks from the Dallas Scottish Country Dance group. TH is a very kilt-friendly location. As was mentioned on the Atlanta thread, live music, enjoyable as it is, raises the noise level and makes it harder to hear the conversation.
It's my understanding that Flying Saucer and Sherlocks both allow smoking. If that's the case, that's a negative from my perspective.
A couple of months ago, AnimalK and I met at the TGIFridays next to Grapevine Mills Mall. That worked out pretty well.
-
Of course smoking is a positive from my perspective... If I can kick back with a stogie or my pipe and a single malt... All is well in my book. That being said, Trinity is awesome in my opinion...

I agree . . . Trinity is a good location. They do allow smoking in the area outside, and the weather should be getting nice for sitting outside soon.

So is that 2 votes for Trinity? I work in the Merrel Lynch building next door, so I can look out the window from this end of the building and see the patio of Trinity. 3 Votes.

Cool!
-
There is a Stewart, a McConnell, and myself a McKenzie in the office. We've talked about going to play golf in our kilts. Alas Mr. McConnell doesn't have a kilt YET. We're working on him though.
-
Here's something different!!!
I just found out about your site (from a man in a kilt!) at the North Texas Irish Festival.
I was telling him about our Dallas area event for Texas Tartan Day.
I am organizing a day out at the ballgame on Friday, April 6th to celebrate Texas Tartan Day with The Frisco Rough Riders. The game is at 7pm and group tickets are available (info below). We have an excellent piper who will play "Take me out to the Ballpark" for the 7th inning stretch. And stay for fireworks after the game!
So bring your friends and family and wear your kilt! Group tix (bullpen $10, home plate seats $15) are available in blocks of 20. Call James McDonald at the Texas Rough Riders for more info at 972.334.1957 or email at jmcdonald@ridersbaseball.com
It might be fun to meet up at a pub beforehand if anyone has the desire!

Hello All!
I have a connection at Trinity Hall...The manager there was kind enough to help out the Dallas Scottish Country Dancers, so I am sure mkmound and I can round up a few kilt wearers/lovers and I will see if we can work out a deal with TH. Any good vibes on that suggestion?
-
Howdy, Red!! Glad you finally made it over here! :welcome:
:kd: :kd: :kd:
Feel free to introduce yourself in the Kilt Board Newbie section! (Or would you like me to introduce you??)
Back on topic, I was reminded that April 6 is Good Friday, so some of us will have church commitments. (It's great that you know the manager at TH -- that will come in handy!)
However, as an alternative, The Scottish Society of Dallas is having a Tartan Day Ceilidh at the Winfrey Point House (at White Rock Lake) on Sunday, April 1, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Details here.
How does that sound?
-
Well, you know I am always keen for windy days and the laddies decked out in the kilts....so the park would be fine for that.
However....I think if we are in a more public place, the more interest we would garner from those so obviously out of the kilted loop.
If we were in a park, there are very few who would approach to find out more, it looking more like a private party.
Just my thoughts.
So I need to introduce myself on the newbie board, huh? Oh, the pressure!:newbie:

As I mentioned, I'll be happy to do the introduction if you like . . .

From meeting Angie at NTIF I think I could introduce her as well. That would be interesting.
Glenlivit (spelling?) is calling Thursday April 5th National Tartan Day in response to April 6th being Good Friday.
Any problem moving Kilt Night to April 5th at Trinity?

That could work for me -- I can join after around 8:00 PM or so.
-
Ha-ha
Yes, please do introduce me...this should be fun:p !
Trinity Hall is swamped right now with preparations for St. Patrick's Day, so I haven't had a chance to speak with the manager about a 'Tartan Day Special", but I imagine I will be there to appreciate all you hunky lads in kilts! (not the same as a % off the scotch, but hey, work with what you got, right?)
Ya'll decide soon so I can get the word out!
-
April 5th On?
Hey Guys,
Are we on for an April 5th Kilt Night somewhere?
I would like to get the word out to the MASSIVE amounts of new recruits from NTIF:D ....
-
If there are no objections then Thursday April 5th at Trinity Hall, sometime after work. 7pm ish?
-
Trinity Hall on April 5 sounds good. 7:00-ish is probably a good time to shoot for, but I don't think I'll make it until around 8:00. Get the place warmed up, and I'll join you when I'm able.
-
Event has been added to the Calendar.

Go set up your reminder!
-
-
reminder to everyone to make sure they have their calendars marked. I'm gonna kick Angie to make sure she's checked in with Trinity Hall now that St. Patty's day festivities have passed.
-
Ha
LordKiltClad, back that bus up!
I just spoke with "my connection" at Trinity Hall (actually I just recovered from St. Patricks's:sick: ) and here is what the pub can offer...
Depending on how many people we can wrangle together, we can get group drink tickets at $5 each. That's about 25 cents off pints and a % of hard liquor. They may even be able to throw some snacks our way....my batting eyelashes weren't very effective over the phone:wink: I may even get froggy with all the kilts around and offer up my $25 gift card. At this date, that's all I got, but it's better than naught, right?
Anyone plan to go this weekend and help support St. Baldrick's?
