Hamvention 2024
After attending the Dayton Hamvention (now located in Xenia, OH) for many years, this is the first year I've attended since acquiring a more appropriate kilt. I would never take the chance of wearing my grandfather's family kilt. The weather on Saturday was perfect for wearing my DNKE Sport Utility. I made a Macfarlane tartan patch for the front pocket and that was actually spotted by the VP of Clan Macfarlane Worldwide.
I spotted a couple others wearing kilts and I intended to get photos with them but each time I spotted a kilt wearer they were deep in a conversation that I didn't feel I should interrupt.
Looking forward to next year!

I was one of them. Been wearing a kilt to Hamvention since at least 2012.

Well I will try to catch you next year. I’ll plan to wear mine again on the day with the best looking forecast between Fri or Sat.

Darn. I won't be attending Hamvention 2025 because my daughter's college graduation is that Saturday. Catch you in 2026 Mike.

I have to say, I love the idea of putting a patch of tartan on a non-tartan kilt. It looks excellent. I may have to steal that idea from you

Did you find any fun radios or extra equipment while you were there?

Go for it!
I was not wild about the DNKE logo near the front of the kilt so I mounted four Velcro pads around it and then matched those on my tartan patch. It covers it up very nicely. I made some other patches with different themes that are quickly interchangeable for different events/environments.
I acquired the tartan material from eBay from a seller that offered little 6in square samples at a much lower price than buying a whole yard. Worked great.

It was more of a selling year for me this year. Lots of wonderful gear to dream about. The biggest purchase was a few dozen laserdisc movies but I bought those for a co-worker.
