Concerning plaids, see this thread to understand the various types of plaids and the various terms

    https://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/...o-plaid-98719/

So, understanding the various sorts of plaids, the question of how to wear one depends on what sort it is.

With the "belted plaid" long worn by civilians in Evening Dress and Highland officers in Full Dress and Levee Dress, there's a sizeable fringed pieced of cloth, actually a separate piece, which you pass through the epaulette, and let it hang down in front.

You pin the plaid brooch to the plaid, not to the jacket. Everything stays put in my experience.

I don't think I've ever seen a civilian wear the military "fly plaid" which is worn without brooch, but is fitted with a cord loop which goes around the epaulette's button.

As we can see both the belted plaid and fly plaid have a cloth belt that goes around your waist.

The feedback is great and makes me feel like i just need to dig out my patience. I have been in communication with the kiltmaker and he does respond. I try to give him the benefit of any doubt and don't want the experience to get sour between us. And i certainly don't want to damage his reputation. Just for the record, the fly i ordered is only for my wedding next August. And I likely wont wear it again unless there's an extremely formal event in my future that might call for it. I will certainly keep the post status updated.
