I received a few leather working tools for christmas in hopes I might save a few bucks by making my own belts and straps. My too set as of today includes: The Tandy Strap cutter (the wooden one on their site) #4 edge beveler Mini- Punch Set ( 0 - 5) Edge Kote (black) Edge slicker (I picked up a nylon clothes line pully from Home Depot for $1.37 and monted it to a bolt to lock into a drill for slicking edges. Other wise these are about $2.50 +Shipping.) Does anyone have any good links to leather working knowledge? I assembled a few but am always looking for more. http://www.rudedogleather.com/classe...d1/4cord1.html http://www.4hides.com/fullgrain.htm http://www.sdtradingco.com/ http://www.saroftreve.com/wwl/braiding/braiding.shtml (I stumbled on this one, but be carefull surfing beyond the leather working pages ) http://www.ebingerleather.com/eblchome.htm http://www.montanaleather.com/stitchinginstructions.htm http://www.nwta.com/patterns/pdfs/291sporr.pdf http://home.alltel.net/henryh/Make_H...ther_Belt.html
I used to get paid to make various leather goods. I worked for a short while at Old Salem in Winston-Salem, NC in the shoe maker's shop. A while back I tried to poke around online for leather related stuff, and didn't find much at all. Granted that was a while back, and the internet changes drastically overnight these days. If you have any questions about it, I could help. -ian
Here's a few that I have bookmarked. http://leatherunltd.com/?source=google2 http://www.davidmorgan.com/dw_go_braidingsupplies.html A while back my sister was needing info on braiding so I refered her this site- http://www.saroftreve.com/wwl/braiding/braiding.shtml .I wasn't thinking when I did so. I got a very animated call from her about it!
Couple of others: http://mysite.verizon.net/oldschooll...eatherbelt.htm http://www.ehow.com/how_15431_make-leather-belt.html Tandy's 'Handstitching' book has a decent illustrated write-up too. Just ordered their 'Belts Galore' book to see what other pearls of wisdom are out there.
