Over-joyed - and embarrassed...
My first kilt finally arrived today: House of Edgar 13 oz 8 yrd in Murphy tartan, sporran, hose, shoes and all the works. Wife has camera travelling 'till Sunday, so sorry, no pictures before then
The embarrassing question from first-timer is:
got a kilt belt from kilt store, but how on earth do I put it on?!?!? I have never seen a belt with a small buckle/fastner way towards my left (?) hip - and on the in-side...
Advise appreciated - even if only to tell me I'm not the only one who has experienced this.
OK, the good news: the kilt is awesome! I have never worn a kilt before, and had originally intended one for weddings, christenings and other celebrations. Sooo not the case when I tore open the Fed Ex package and donned the contents. This deserves to be worn weekly!!! (for starters... )

Why do i have the lyrics to Music of the Night going thru my head now...

Close your eyes and surrender to your KILTED dreams.
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before.
Close your eyes, let your pleats begin to soar!
And you'll live as you've
never lived before...
apologies to ALW (although he still owes us an apologhy for Cats but i digress...)

I hope you got a kilt belt buckle also, 'cause the belt is going to be of no use to you without it.
First lay out your belt with the inside up. Inside is the side with the little buckle on it.
Fish the smaller strap on the end of the belt thru the large loop of the buckle.
Double the smaller strap back on itself and buckle it into the small buckle in the inside if the belt.
Put the belt on and check fit. If too large, take up the small strap and buckle a notch or two till it fits. You want the belt to fit snug when over the kilt but not tight. It is not supposed to hold the kilt up, it's just for decoration.
When you put the belt on remember, it DOES NOT go thru the beltloops on the back of the kilt. Those are there to hold the sporran strap. They are long so the sporran strap is below the kilt belt and not underneath it.
When you have found the right size slide the leather loop (it's called a keeper) up near the buckle to hold things flat.
Then for the last step, put the kilt on. Put the properly sized and fitted kilt belt on, and GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY IT.

That was a great tutorial! And no need to be embarrased. I had the same issue when I first got my belt.
