This is slightly off topic, but I used to work in a chemical plant as an instrument tech. There was an older guy who was there when I first joined the shop who was training me on the laboratory instruments. One day we got a call, that the DK-2 (a photospectrometer) had quit working and was urgently needed to run some important samples. I accompanied the old guy to the lab so I could learn about the instrument. We arrived and he opened the sample compartment and looked inside. Then he looked at the two different wavelength lamps. Finally, he raised one corner of the instrument about 3 inches and dropped it. The instrument immediately went back to operating normally. The astonished lab tech looked and said, "what do I need you for, I could dropped it". The old instrument tech replied, "because I know how high to lift it before I drop it". and we left.
