    Chanter's

Hey everyone, I am thinking of taken up the bagpipes..daaaaa OK, Who says that you can't teach old dogs a new trick? I have looked all over for Chanters and there seems to be many. Is there any out there that would be better than others for starting out with?

Good for you, Mike50! I started one and half years ago at age 50, and I'm having a blast with it. For your practice chanter, I'd suggest poly, not wood, and make sure it is full-size (same size as the actual bagpipe chanter). I'm happy with my McCallum, but there are lots of good brands available. Good luck and have fun!

I've got a poly chanter that my ex-wife gave me, years ago. I took some lessons, but had to drop out. It always worked just fine.

Just this past weekend, I picked up a video tutor program that I'm going to try for a while before I waste an instructor's time.

You guys are an inspiration. Good luck!

ok first off you wont waste an instructors time by comming in and not knowing anything....you WILL waste an instructors time by learning on your own and then he has to teach you all over again to get rid of your bad habits since you didint have anyone there to smack your fingers when you do a movement wrong!
I taught myself pipes....if there is NO OTHER WAY to learn then by all means teach yourself, however you need to be REAL self critical watching in the mirror when you play and make sure it looks EXACTLY like the picture/screen....
as far as PC's go GIbson makes a good "long poly chanter" that is the same sixe as a real chanter so the transition from PC to GHB is easier...also if you have large hands it works well also cause you wont have to scrunch your fingers together to cover the holes....also try to get one thats counter sunk so the holes are bigger....also helps the transition

anymore ?'s PM me I'll be glad to help !
