I' searching for kilt hose that find a balance given the following criteria: Fit Large calves without stretching out very thin (18" +) Available in Black and/or Brown (dark) Inexpensive ($20 - $30) Excellent Quality (Durable and not so thin as to see thru) Currently available I evaluated several resources online. There may be others but honestly, if I knew they were not an option due to cost or quality I never considered them in the first place. The Almost Unwearoutable hose are an example. They meet all criteria except cost. It would have been $50 minimum for a plane long sock but then I'm looking at international shipping and possible taxes. Legend: X=Acceptable, O= Almost, _ = No or N/A * This does not mean the product is bad, only that I have not tried the products and have not read any reviews of them yet. I admit this is a very unscientific evaluation but given the criteria for and expected result, it's accurate enough. I'll be glad to go line by line if someone has a question about my logic but not in this post. For now I'll just summarize my findings: Fitting a large calve is not a priority of the market. The 4 vendors who can do it do not have the colors I want or they only have one (black or Brown). The Scottish Tartans Museum is expected to have the ability early next year but they are not currently available. Conclusion: I'll probably buy a couple pairs of Hamilton Dry Goods socks and dye them for daily wear until Matt Newsome's larger sizes come in and buy a pair of those in black for formal wear.
