Hello!
Hi everyone
I was so excited to find this board. It will be so wonderful to hear from other people across the world about this topic . I myself reside close to philly in PA.
I have for the longest time always wanted to get a kilt to wear. My wife has not been all that supportive about it anytime I have brought up the idea. But recently, my band and I have been starting to play out in bars and such. Not an irish band or anything but a general rock band. Well one night after practice we all got to talking about maybe having sort of set outfits to wear for the gigs. Well I mentioned maybe about wearing a kilt up on stage for myself would be great. I am the drummer and thought the extra mobility would be a little beneficial. Well they loved the idea. Well the next step was to bring it up to my ever doubting wife to the subject. After a little argument, she agreed it would be ok to wear for the gigs. Woohoo. A step in the right direction. I am hoping that once she kind of gets used to seeing me in it along with playing the drums might make for a more positive picture.
I don't know if this is the best way to win the wife over but it seems like it should work for me. Well now that is past, I am starting to shop around for my first kilt. I came across a couple of posts about Stillwater kilts saying they are a good first and 2nd kilt to buy. Any thoughts there? I am a little worried about the sizing though. Anyone ever have any trouble with sizing before?
Sorry about the rambling on. But I just wanted to give a little bio and say hi to everyone. I look forward to adding to the board in the future as well.

Welcome!
A hearty Welcome! from among the kilted in Kentucky!
My first kilt is/was a Utilikilt. Like you, I was concerned about the sizing, especially when the kilt arrived and it seemed larger than I wear my trousers. However, I've since seen the wisdom of the sizing of UKs and Amerikilts, and life is grand.
Lovin' the breeze 'tween m'knees!

From Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Have you thought about USA Kilts? They are in Phoenixville, PA it may be worth a drive down, they are a bit more expensive than a Stillwater, however if you are worried about sizing they are made to measure so that should alleviate any sizing issues.

Welcome from Northumberland!
I have no personal experience of stillwater kilts, but people are suportive of them!
I'd say you're going the right way, first gigs, then perhaps a prince charlie or an argyll for a posh night out.... she'll come around when she realises you're not breaking any taboos and that it actualy makes her catch look even better to others!
