Have somewhat of a problem. Next week I am going on a 9 day cruise in the Caribeann over the Xmas holiday. I would like to wear my kilt in the formal manner for the "fancy" Christmas Dinner. But...I have no PC or even a Argyll jacket because they won't arrive until the end of Dec or early Jan. That's the problem. My wife would really like me to wear a kilt to dinner and so would I since this will be my first official "Christmas in a Kilt". My question is this: Is it possible to wear something else that could subsitute the jacket that isn't standard for Kilts? In other words, can certain Tuxedo jackets be used or other type suits? Just wondering if there were any alternatives? Thanks in advance.
While it can be done, and I've seen it more than once. It does not really look right, do you have a tuxedo jacket that would suffice or do you have to go out and find one?
You could use about any short tailed jacket, but the normal length jackets just won't look right.

An Eton jacket will work. http://www.uniformalwearhouse.com/ap...ojackets4.html Check your local tux rental shops. They may or may not have them.
You can always rent a Prince Charlie jacket while you wait on the one you purchased to arrive.
Although I'm pretty sure you've already checked this out, the PC is for tux events, the Argyll is for everything else. There are some threads on here that lead to off hire sites or waiter type jackets. Money and express shipping might work. I'm noting a trend here, and it backs up my experience. Are jackets ever delivered on schedule? Should we always allow a month lead time on the delivery date? If these questions generate any discussion, maybe the mods can move the questions to a new thread.
It is your vacation.... wear the kilt with what ever nice shirt you have. The crusie I went on had a formal night that we were supposed to wear blacktie yux or a suit to dinner that evening. I hate ties. I paid a lot for the cruise so I wore what I felt appropriate for a tropical setting. My best Hawiaan shirt and nice slacks. (pre kilt era) I got lots of comments from other uncomfortable men in their tuxs.
Why do you think that the jacket won't arrive until late Dec or Early Jan? Several places carry some stock in Argyll / vests and or PC's. We have a bunch of Argylls in stock right now. Matt Newsome may have some in stock (http://www.scottishtartans.org/). Other sponsors up here may have them in stock... check around before you assume it'll be a problem. tattoobrad had this same problem a month ago before HIS cruise. He called me and we got it there in time: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/k...x.html?t=32706 Lesson is: Check with different vendors if you're in a time crunch. It may not be too late.

How do you maintain that spirit of Merry Crustymas? Sounds like good advice.

I ordered a tweed argyle back in early November, and it should arrive early January. But then, I never said I was in a hurry (and I'm not).
