Kilts & HASHing
I used to HASH with several Washington DC Metro area HASH groups and I get their digital newsletter and this picture was taken at the New Haven Conneticut HASH to honor the poor souls that were arrested for laying their trail of white flour near the Ikea store, which the authorities assumed it was powdered ANTHRAX!

Beer runners’ flour trail a recipe for trouble
Pair arrested after marking a powdery path through IKEA parking lot.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Two people who sprinkled flour in a parking lot to mark a trail for their offbeat running club inadvertently caused a bioterrorism scare and now face a felony charge.
The sprinkled powder forced hundreds to evacuate an IKEA furniture store Thursday.
New Haven ophthalmologist Daniel Salchow, 36, and his sister, Dorothee, 31, who is visiting from Hamburg, Germany, were both charged with first-degree breach of peace, a felony.
Mayoral spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga said the city plans to seek restitution from the Salchows, who are due in court Sept. 14.
“You see powder connected by arrows and chalk, you never know,” she said. “It could be a terrorist, it could be something more serious. We’re thankful it wasn’t, but there were a lot of resources that went into figuring that out.”
The Hash House Harriers (abbreviated to HHH or H3) is an international group of social, non-competitive running and drinking clubs. Hashing has frequently been described as 'a drinking club with a running problem', and the social element of hashing is of equal importance to the running.
The organization of the Hash House Harriers is completely decentralized, with chapters (also commonly called kennels) having no formal regional or national offices or leadership structure. There are more than 1700 kennels with at least one Hash in most major cities in the world. Most hashes gather regularly scheduled basis, with some occurring only sporadically, i.e. on Leap Year days, or Friday the 13th, when that occurs.
Several regional directories or international directories have been published with Hash Contact information, although the Internet has become the primary source of hashing information.
The template for a hash run is loosely based on hare hunting. One or more hashers (the "hares") lays out a running trail, that the rest of the club follows. The trail may include false trails, short cuts and trail breaks. These features are designed to keep the pack together regardless of fitness levels or running speed. The pack or 'hounds' follow the trail from check to check, searching the surrounding terrain to attempt to find the continuation of the trail. A well-laid check will have the effect of allowing slower runners to catch up and rejoin the main pack, while the faster runners try to find the trail again.

Yea, its right up there on the threat chart with blinking light up cartoon characters giving you the bird.
Hope things work out for our fellow kilties.
Best regards,
Jake

When I was stationed at Quantico I used to participate in H3 almost every week-end. But it seemed to be a peculiar East-coast thing. I don't remember seeing or hearing about any HASH out here.
We used to have a great time - Before, during and after. I'd have to invent a wheel chair event now

It sounds as if they could use a good criminal defense attorney, and then after they are found not guilty, a good civil rights attorney to sue the city for violating their civil rights.

We did that overseas while I was on a Med Float. We had no idea there was a name for it though. We just ran from bar to bar cause we had limited time.
Although we did a 5K Pub crawl once.

Risk aversion has gone too far. They should be left alone.

HASHs were regularly run in GTMO as well [no kilts though ] but from house to house as all of the bars were next door to each other .
IIRC the MP never gave them any grief over the "trail marking" and there are more cops than residents on that base .
