Transition Lenses
I'm curious if anyone here has Transitions lenses in their glasses. My wife is thinking of getting these for her next pair of glasses, and I thought I'd check to see what people had to say about them.
If you have them, what do you like about them and what do you dislike?
Thanks!

I've got them and I love them. They really help cut the glare. The only thing I don't like is that they don't get real dark and they take a while to got back to clear once you go inside. Its something that you get use to though.

I have them in my motorcycle glasses and I love them. I have found however that they do not darken very much in the car, so I have a regular pair of prescription sunglasses for situations where I think the transitions won't perform as needed.

Over the years I've had them twice. Never again, at least until I get talked into them again.
They don't get dark enough, they don't get clear enough, and they take too long to change. I ended up standing in doorways way too long as I needed the glasses to change back before I went in to the office. People wondered why I was wearing my sun glasses for meetings, etc., etc. , etc.
So I wear a hat and don't worry about it anymore.
As with any other opinion, this is what I found for me.

As Phantom has stated, they are not very good for driving. I got a pair and tried them for a week and wound up having to change the lenses for tinted ones. It seems that they respond best in direct sunlight which does noy happen when in a car. I would also recommend a brownish tint. I find them to be the best at cutting glare.

I think it is important to make sure you are getting the 'real' Transitions brand lenses and not another photochromic lens. Also, proper "break-in" is important, they'll tell you about it.
I have had cheaper lenses that always had a little tint, or were slow to react etc... The Transitions bifocals I am wearing right now are quite clear, even held up to white paper, and get dark enough (for me anyway) for my outdoor activities. They were not cheap, but I need to wear them all the time, so there you go...
As some of the guys noted, since they are activated by UV rays, they won't get as dark in your car due to the UV block in the windows. My suggestion to solve this is to get a convertible sportscar, and keep the top down as much as possible!

I have them and I love them, though I wear contact lenses more often. They darken VERY quickly in sunlight, though I admit they don't lighten nearly as quickly when you go inside. You get used to that.
It's true that they don't darken well in a car. I've never found that to be a problem. I nearly always wear sunglasses in the car in the daytime when I'm wearing contacts, so I am sensitive to the need to cut the glare. My Transistions lenses have always been fine in the car. I have clip-on sunglasses that I wore with my previous glasses. You could get those.
I also recommend the gray tint instead of the brown. The brown made everyone look jaundiced.

I had transitions for years. I loved them. The grey tint is definitely better, and if I remember correctly, it actually gets darker than the brown.
One thing I noticed that I thought was a bit odd... My lenses got MUCH darker on cold days, and stayed darker longer than in warm weather.
I haven't had transitions in about five years... who knows what they've changed since then.

I only wear glass lenses, so Transitions aren't for me. I am very happy with my Zeiss Photo-Brown lenses.
