    Florida Tartan???

    Just putting this out there....

I see that a bunch of States here in the USA...have tartans....

    I'm here in Florida...
Anyone ever seen a "Florida" tartan????

I know a few groups here have their own tartans...(NWC)...Dunedin...
    But...just haven't found a State Tartan...

Maybe I should have one made up????

    Just a thought?

It seems as thought Florida is one of the few without one! That sounds like it would be a neat endevour.

Hey Rick, I have one that is already being woven as a fashion tartan. Check out the pic below. The gendarmes asked me where I was from and I replied Florida. They then stated that I must be wearing the Keys tartan! Not sure about that, but the brown could represent the tannin found in our inland waters, and the green our prolific plant life.

Although, when you throw the Keys into the equation, we could definitely come up with a much more colorful tartan! Think of the coloring on a parrot or similar tropical bird!

    florida tartan

Brighter colours, even only as accents would be approprate for Florida. To make it official wouldn't the state legislature have to appove it?

Yes, the state legislature would have to recognize it as the official tartan, but that is easier said than done. Most state tartans are the project of the various Scottish organizations in the state; here are a couple of accounts of the process:

Actually, I believe the Dunedin tartan is a "city tartan" for Dunedin, Florida, which was originally settled by Scottish immigrants:

Sarasota was also originally a "Scottish colony".

I strongly suggest utilizing the colors in the Florida flag. Especially since I live in Florida. I personally have lived in Naples, Tallahassee, and Lakeland. The flamingo setting is not appropriate for all parts of Florida. If you desire to actually see people wearing the tartan, one should endeavor to make a pleasing design of colors.
