    Holiday in York

I am off to my old stomping ground to attend the 80th birthday party of my aunt and godmother, which is the day before my 58th.

My family certainly seem to be, on average, a long lived bunch.

So I will be in South Yorkshire over Easter.

I was actually born in York, just by the minster, there was a little maternity home - I must go and see if it is still there. Most of my mother's family are still around York, so I will be calling in on them.

I haven't been back for ages - some cousins I haven't seen for 40 years - I do have lots on that side of the family tree.

So its off in the morning and not back until the 17th.

Hope you have a very wonderful time, Pleater.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

York is one of my favorite cities in the UK; whether its just wandering round the city centre or visiting the National Railway Museum. I am sooooo jealous.

    Regards

This was the last holiday we had with our good friend Paul in October '08. He absoulutely loved it as he was right in to history of which York has lots to offer. Have a great time.

I will really enjoy my holiday now - once I get the washing done.

I just had to get the springy metal drain cleaner and go shoulder deep in the gully to clear a blockage - I found I had a bath full of water sloshing around in the conservatory and needed to do another lot of washing, and the washing machine drains into the same gully, as do all the sinks....

Ah well - it is clear now and the washing machine is working, the floor is mopped - and if I take a few more showers the odour should dissipate....

I think I will reward myself for excessive intrepidity and pour myself a rum and coke as I wait for the machine to finish its load.

Well, we made it there and back - Auntie Elsie was suitably astonished, the food was wonderful, and on my birthday I found the place where I was born - just by York Minster, exactly - and I do mean exactly - 58 years before.

Did you see any natives trying to kill kilted Scotsmen with bows and arrows?
