beloved KILT
Hallo, After dreaming for years about having a Kilt, and finding it all a bit expensif , I found a ex-hire kilt in Edinburgh, while being there for the festival, last august . I could not make up my mind about the tartans available in my size, but was happy to find an 8 yard one in plain black.
Altough one needs some courage to wear it in full daylight, I've had plenty of positif remarks, it seems to suite me well (I make an effort to dress up when I put it on :black jacket, white shirt, tie, black kilhoses ...
A lesbian friend said: "It so typical gay-men to put a skirt on ... to which I had to reply that I had only seen her in trousers !
Although I'm gay, I find it a bit camp, but masculin !
Since I take such pleasure in wearing it, I've ordered another one to be made in the "Scott Green muted "-tartan
I've no scottish ancestry whatsoever , do not want to look like a fake Scotsman, but find it smart, comfortable to wear and beautful to see it
worn by someone else / Is this a good excuse ????

Perfect "excuse" (as if one were needed!)
Welcome!

Hey! Whether or not something can be considered "camp" all depends on the attitude of the wearer. Glad that you found a kilt and getting a deal makes it that much sweeter. I have a friend that doesn't like the kilt but has the opinion that a tartan one is more "masculine" than a plain one...I think that that is a popular misconception. Wear it in good health and party on!

Congratulations on the new kilt.
Please remind your friend that it's not a skirt. it's the most masculine garment in the world. That should start a lively debate about men's and women's clothing that will last a while.

Welcome Frits, Gent is one of my favourite places, I'm there at least 5 times a year!
I should be there in a few weeks, so perhaps we get a chance to meet up, I'm always happy to have a coffee in the Coffee Lounge, or The Out, or even the Casa... but it is still smoky there!I am always bring at least one kilt with me.... sometimes several!

Welcome aboard,
Sounds like you're well hooked on kilts already. For what its worth, when I started wearing kilts I took more grief from a lesbian coworker than anyone else..."What are you wearing under that thing?" "How do you take a dump in that thing?" Stuff I would have been fired/arrested for if said to her when she wore skirts - which she did from time to time. And, as you've already found out, the line that shut her up was "If I wanted to dress like a woman I'd wear pants."
Kilting is about YOU - not other people. Kilt up, sally forth, and enjoy the FREEDOM!
