Kilts at a Mardi Gras Ball
Every year some friends in the Krewe of Olympus invite my wife Shelley and I to attend the 'Mystery and Fantasy Mardi Gras Ball' here in Houston, and we always have a good time. Before we get to the photos, I should explain 2 points; 1, The party is black tie with mask or 'theme costume' only, This year's theme was "Mysteries of Aladdin". And 2, The ball is sponsored by a gay Mardi Gras Krewe.

Here's Shelley and I, Shelley had already collected a few beads on the dance floor.

here's Shelley, our host Neal, our friend Mindy and I.

What do you know, I'm not the only guy in a kilt at the party! This fellow and I were both frequently stopped for photos all night.
But you know, even kilted it's hard to stand out in a crowd where other gentlemen are dressed like this;

or this;

One final tip for you, If you are ever asked 'the question' by a crowd of attentive gay gentlemen, "Same as yours only bigger" is not the best response if you want put them off!

Thanks Highlander! You know, one of the kind of funny things about the evening was that my wife said I should wear my more colourful Caledonia Modern kilt, and I told her it would be "too flashy" for black tie!

For an event such as this I think I would have been far too tempted to get a really nice Jaffar outfit (with golden snake staff).
Failing that a formal kilt outfit was a good choice
You and your lady look great and like you were having a blast.
Cheers

Thanks Jamie, it was a great party.
You know, the Jaffar outfit did occur to me, but only after I saw a couple of Egyptian themed costumes that night! I thought for a while about putting together a sultan outfit or something, but I'm frugal and a little lazy and already have the formal kit. My wife will dress for the themes if she can put something together, they announce them months in advance.
I asked some of the hosts about the theme for next year, and they don't know yet, so I suggested "Braveheart". It will at least make for some interesting photos!
PS... Jamie, I just realized you were talking about the wizard character Jaffar in the Disney Aladdin movie! I was thinking about the Jaffa from Stargate SG1! The geek mind is always busy!

Reason: can't tell Jaffar from Teal'c !

Looks like a fun night, it must be nice to be in a room where the kilt is not outrageous.

You are such a sport! That's why they keep inviting you back.
