Nightawk and his IDIOT cousin
So, I got a call from aunt... It seems my IDIOT cousin has (again...) gotten himself into yet another drunk driving accident. Last time, he totalled a parked cop car. This time, he wrecked a company truck. So what am I doing this weekend, the question has been posed. I'm giving my aunt and uncle a place to stay unill they find a new place to live- since IDIOT is going to loose his home- and taking care of my second cousin. Maybe now, my IDIOT cousin will figure out that he's got some sort of drinking problem...

Hope things work out with that, Nighthawk.
Having lost and nearly lost close friends and some family to both drunk driving and even just drinking, I think you are right to call him an idiot.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

One can but hope and pray that he may see this as a wake up call and take the first steps towards quitting the booze.

WOW! I'm sorry to hear about that cousin of yours. I'm surprised, as I'm sure you are, that he didn't learn his lesson on the first one. Your family are lucky to have a man like you to help them through this trying time. GOOD LUCK !!! I know your going to need it.

I'm sorry you have this patch of ground to pass through. Take care of #1 first - you and your immediate family - it's not selfish - it's the preservation of your family unit.

Boy - what a mess! Since your cousin doesn't seem to be ready to face his demons it really is best for you all get as far away from him as possible.

Al-Anon
Have his parents and other relatives looked into Al-Anon? Some close to alcoholics have found it helpful over the years. They have meetings in most cities and towns in North America.

I'd agree totally, if someone is not ready then there is little you can do for them.

The clue phone is ringing. I sincerely hope he picks up.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

My aunt was saying tonight that she's going to look into it. The problem as she sees it is that my cousin refuses to see that there's anything wrong.
EDIT: It has just occured to me that I can look into it, too. I live over an hour away, but maybe I can do something. I don't know. I've seen this coming for a while.

***Sigh*** Me, too.
He's losing his house, he's lost his business, he's going to loose his daughter... None of us are really talking to him much any more. Maybe he'll figure it out.
