    California Poppies!

    * Picture Removed *

    This is a patch of California poppies that have established themselves in my yard. They re seed themselves each year, and I only have to water a little and pick the weeds out of the patch.

    I wanted a tartan kilt picture with them because April sixth seems to be both tartan day and California poppy day, at least in neighboring California.

    Ya, they can tend to take over a spot. When the seed pods dry down, they pop open and shoot seeds all over the place. The cats like to lay in the middle of the patch.

    I used to have two almond trees in this spot, but I have been switching over to low water, desert compatible plants.

    Oh, it's going on big time over here.
    We had a little rain earlier this year, and everything is blooming.

    I've been trying to deal with all the weeds that have sprung up. That's always a bit of a problem about this time.

    Here's a picture out of my album of Shame from the same time last year.
    * Picture removed. *Unfortunatly, I didn't get a picture with the tartan kilt.

    There's probably a lot more poppies in this picture because they seem to have gotten a late start this year.

    I'm getting a strange feeling that maybe there is something about that picture that's not quite right.

    Anyway, I recieved a shipment of new succulants to work with today. and I've been busy propigating several different plants lately. It is quite spring, so I will gear up to do some air layering of trees. I have several bonsai growing as branches on trees, I forget the Japanese term, and they need to come off too.
