Last month I was looking for a Quaich to add to my collection of.. well ..stuff. I came across this little Quaich that was fairly inexpensive, but needed a little work to bring back it’s brilliance. I won the auction and a week later it arrived at my home. It was fairly tarnished and had a few scratches on the face of the bowl. I set to work researching pewter and seeing what I might be able to do with it. Here is how my little Quaich arrived (please excuse the poor pictures I need a new camera) The inside of the bowl, note the big black tarnish stains. The outside of the bowl, you can’t really see the scratches due to my crappy photography skills: More to come..

I saw a recipe for a homemade paste that claimed it worked great getting rid of stains on pewter: Here it is: I waited for it to dry: Well the paste did not work.. More to come..
I broke out the 3M Tarni-Sheild and went to work. After an hour and a half: I was very happy! More to come..
I went to the local dollar store and picked up a small balsa wood box: I cut some cotton and silk to line the box: I then took the silk and cotton out and coated the box with Linseed oil: More to come..
While waiting for the box to dry I used very fine steel wool to buff out the scratches on the bowl and gave the entire Quaich a good buffing. When the box was dry I glued the cotton and silk back in the box and let it dry: More to come..
Finished project: Now it sits with some little friends of mine: Total cost of the project: Quaich-$12 including shipping from Scotland (You can get great deals on tarnished items) Box-$1 Linseed oil-$5 Tarni-Sheild-$5 Steel wool-$2 (I won’t include the scraps of silk and cotton) Total $25 The fun in restoring the Quaich-Priceless! Thanks for looking, Sara
