Black Watch Tartan

This may have been previously discussed but my searches here have brought nothing to light.

My question is:
Was the Black Watch a clan tartan adopted by the Highland Companies or a military tartan adopted by the Campbells (and others, such as Grant and Munro, as a hunting tartan)?
