For my online biology class we had to do a filed trip, I went to White Sands Monument. On the mountain it was a fine 75 F but down in the basin it was 96F at 6:45 pm. I wasn't kilted since i was running all kinds of errands that day all over the plsce but I got some great shots. Some of you may recognize some of the backgrounds from Transformers 2. The dunes that are not part of the monument but are part of Holloman Air Force base doubled as Egypt, outside the Smithsonian, and the secret base of the joint autobot/military operation. The forest scene outside of Philadelphia was actually shot on the Mescalero Reservation about twenty minutes from where I am. But on to the pics. Rob

Seeing the moon during daylight hours is not that uncommon here: looking down form just bove the trestle near Cloudcroft down onto the basin. Rob
I went to White Sands as a kid in the late 60's. Your pics bring back memories. Thanks.

Thanks for the pictures. It's good to see some places remain immutable.
I was stationed at Holloman Air Force base for 5 years. Loved that area, but could never get back there. Spent a lot of time in the sand and up range, as I was Security Police and that was my patrol area. From the Main part of the base all the way to Trinity site where they set off the first test of the atom bomb. Hutch.
Great set of pictures Rob. The white sand gives a snow like look and I keep having to tell myself that it isn't freezing out. Regards Chas
What an interesting place, thank you for sharing the pictures.
