Rant: Wear it Day and Night in a Campground!

This mood hits me after every kilted camping trip – in my case to music festivals.

Lots of non-traveling folks on (not only kilts but other) web forums seem to be missing half of the magic.

I very much enjoy being kilted away from home and in the out-of-doors, day and night.

I post in this sub-forum because from what I read here indoor kilt occasions seem exclusively traditional, and frankly as much about presentation or display as just plain fun.

Sorry - but you're going to have to try harder... That (mercifully) didn't rise to the level of "rant."

So, what you're saying is that you think more people should get out more, and that they would enjoy the benefits of kilting if they had a kilt appropriate for the rugged outdoors and the battery of travel, in which they can forget about appearances, and you think that should be a contemporary kilt?

You may have a point, though camping isn't everyone's cup-o-tea. But I have done plenty of travel and my UK's are often my kilt of choice. I've managed to bring along some tanks as well and have made them work in certain occasions, too. They are especially good at keeping away the cold, damp air of evening.

I agree. Giving this some small amount of thought, most posts on XMarks seem to be indoors, although a few do have outdoors events. I often go camping in my kilt and in two weeks time I will spend 3 days camping in Ballater for the Braemar Highland Gathering. I will however be indoors for the drinking !

It all depends on the weather, I was so glad to have the jacket and all that at Fergus last year as it rained like you would not believe. The year before it was very hot so the real task to me anyway is to dress appropriately for the weather. Both those photos were taken after a night of camping by the way. Oh and I agree with Rex, that really was not a rant at all.

A trip that included State Parks, the Space Needle, Pubs, Breweries, Beer Festivals, gardens, High Teas, Museums, and better than 2500 miles, all in a kilt (though I did wear swim trunks when I went swimming in the ocean in White Rock Canada).

I think there are a great number of us who enjoy wearing our kilts while travelling.

However I'm not going to knock those that wear their highland dress for special occasions.

Frankly highland garb seems perfect for the outdoors
