The 2009 edition of the WKHG have come and gone, and alas I have no photos to post at this time. It was a great success all the way around. I was glad to see that the City Park in Murray was full of clans, vendors, and people enjoying the games. I got to try out my new role as Athletic Director and man what a difference it was. Last year I was a gate guard and now AD wooooo! Running against Stone Mountain and not having prize money to had out meant not a lot of interest from athletes. I had two scheduled to give demos and teach amatures how to throw. Neither one was able to make it at the last minute. Luckly we had a man show up that had competed for 8 years but was forced to retire because of heath issues so he taught us how to throw. You read that right US as in I got to try my hand at the athletic events. We had about 10 people including one youg lassie who tried there had at the big boy games. All of those who tried the games had fun and except for a small scratch or two from the caber nobody got hurt. I was pround of all those who participated!!!!! Some of my results are as follows: 56lbs WOB-9 feet 14lbs Sheaf-12 feet 28lbs WFD-26.6 feet 56lbs WFD-??? 16lbs Bramer Stone-??? 15.5 feet 65lbs Caber-0,11:30,0 So now we look foward to the 2010 Western Kentucky Highland Games. Slainte, Rev.
Running against Stone Mountain is tough. As for athletics, the only time prize money is given out, is when dealing with pros. For amateurs its trophies and ribbons. You might could find a sponsor to help with the money for those. Good luck with next year.
