Rob Roy Sporran
I'm looking for help in making my own Rob Roy Sporran. I know there are two types, I am looking to make the large pouch type seen here.

Does anyone have a pattern or instructions?
It looks like the pouch part is 3 pieces, front, back and side that runs all the way around from left to right.
The flap looks to be of a separate piece of thicker leather, probably sewn in the back, and the front piece that the cord runs through looks to be of the same type of leather as the flap.
Any help on this would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Look in So You're Going to Wear the Kilt for a very servicable pattern and instructions.
One caveat I offer is that if you make the back too soft, the whole thing will end up hanging/saggin like a soft bag with marbles in it.
Good luck, and remember that pictures are required.

Here's a longish thread on the same topic, lots of pictures.

I think there is a version of this pattern available free online, might be linked in the thread I just referenced, or hunt around a bit and I'm sure you will find it. Also later in that thread are very detailed dimensions and photos.

This is a great question, and I don't want to derail the thread, but I have an additional (and relevant) question. I know that a bunch of folks on this site have some pretty good hook-ups, and also that there are many here who are really good at doing their homework/research. My question is this:
Have any of you been able to come up with a pattern for the exact sporran that Liam Neason wore in Rob Roy (pictured above)? Do we know who made the sporran or what happened to it? I know that we have a general idea of how to make simmilar sporrans, but there's something about the specific look of that one that seems hard to replicate.

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies! It's strange, I did a search on the site before making my post, and I found a few threads but the pictures were missing. I don't know how the search missed the posts you linked too.
So thank you very much for the help! If I have any further questions I'll post them and when I get mine finished I'll post some pictures if it's not too embarrassing.

From what I understood, it's a two piece pattern, basically. Tooling leather for the back and flap, while the front was sewn to the back, the closure was a draw string that came from the sides to the flap... It seemed easy enough, just to figure out what style you choose to create..
You would definately want to have a stiff back to secure your strap through to prevent the sagging and bunching of the soft leather.
