What to do when you don't have all the kilt kit?
A couple of things... I'm attending a wedding in T-minus 48hrs. On a farm outside Minneapolis, where it's cold and might be raining/snowing from last weather report.
Issue: No Semi-Dress/Dress Sporran
I had hoped I'd've found the perfect semi-dress sporran by now but I haven't so I'm going to have to 'make do' with what I've got, which is ok but not perfect... so which one?
Option #1
Simple black leather sporran with silver clasp. It has a celtic design embossed but it's really only seen in certain light.
Option #2
Brand spanking new Black/Dark Brown Freelander sporran.
I'm shooting for Option #1 but I do love my Freelander and it's so roomy!
Issue: Shoes
I don't have any appropriate kilt shoes for now so...
Option #1
Shiny black dress shoes
Option #2
Semi-dressy (not shiny) pair of black shoes that have a silver buckle on the side.
I'm leaning towards #2 though they're not super dressy. But I don't care if they get messed up, they're comfortable and they look "ok" with what I've got going on already.
I'm also thinking along the lines of - if my sporran isn't 'dressy' then should my shoes be? Should I try to "match" my accessories (if you will) not just in terms of color but style?
I know pictures would be ideal of outfit options but I've been getting home so late this week, the only thing I want to do is sleep. I will post pictures after - to prove it happened.
Cheers,
-Noah

One more question, what is the requested Dress for the wedding? Formal, semi-formal, black tie?

And what is the rest of your kit... jacket? vest? shirt? tie?

Noah,
If you are the only one there that is kilted, then you are the expert on site. If you say it works, then it does. You are after all a member of the largest kilt wearing fraternity in the world and they are not. Go with your gut instinct and no self doubt - and enjoy yourself.

Answers to questions:
I understand it to be "semi-formal" - it's at 11:30AM this Sat.
I'm wearing a charcoal Braemar jacket (Thanks Wesley!), a matching charcoal vest, white shirt and yellow tie (that should pick up nicely to the yellow stripe in the kilt). The kilt is the Maclean Modern (Thanks Eric!) with lovat blue hose and either matching Maclean or red flashes.
I do figure I'll have one up on everyone in regards to kilt-wearing (possibly!) and I will go with what I got and will be fine but this is perhaps a more 'curiousity' question since my gut is saying semi-dressy shoes and black sporran...
Cheers.

I really have to agree with Chas on this one. Normally if you are the guest at a wedding (in Scotland) you'd wear your kilt, a day wear sporran, hose, well-polished shoes, a shirt and tie, and a kilt jacket. If you didn't have a kilt jacket then you'd wear a nice sweater over the shirt and tie. Couldn't be simpler. So like Chas has said--
go to the wedding and enjoy yourself.

IMHO, black sporran and shined dress shoes (no buckle). Buckle shoes are typically the highest level of formality, even if yours are not the classic formal buckle shoe I would steer clear of them and go with the safe bet -- well-shined lace-ups.
Whatever you do, have fun and get pics!

I'd second syndie7; black sporran and nicely shined dress shoes should round it out nicely. Whatever you choose, go, have fun and do post pics!
