    Folk dancing around the world

I was flipping though the channels and saw a program called "The Gathering: BYU Folk Dancing from Around the World." First, I was really surprised that there was a BYU channel (and even more surprised that we got it). But it was great. A good amount of Irish and Scottish dancing (even some Welsh!!!) along with other fantastic folk dancing from around the world, as promised.

I never knew the Mormons loved to dance so much!

I remember as a young fellow many years ago working in London and one Christmas, after the company’s section lunch, a few colleagues and I went to a pub or two around Soho, then someone spotted a sign which said “Live Pole Dancing Inside” at an open door draped with a beaded curtain. So we paid our admission and went inside. Imagine our surprise when we saw a man in Polish folk-costume dancing the mazurka and other lively measures, to a band’s accompaniment !

After we left, further down the street we saw another sign saying “Lap Dancing till late !”. So we paid our admission and went inside. Imagine our surprise when we saw a Lapplander in his native costume, folk-dancing around a large stuffed reindeer, to a record’s accompaniment !!

Very nice find, Greg. BYU do have a pretty big following so they have a lot of merchandise etc, t.v. etc.
Pretty much if it's a wholesome activity and involves genealogy/heritage then they will like it.
(When Diane wend to a LDS sponsored dance with a friend the rule was that if you could fit a book of mormon between the boy and the girl then it was O.K.)
