I think I told you guys about playing at the Relay For Life a few weeks back (still waiting for the pics to be able to show you) but last night I played at another event guaranteed to stir emotions.
here in my hometown (Lynbrook, NY) the Vietnam Moving Wall was just installed for 24 hour viewing between yesterday and Sunday 6/13. Last night the opening ceremony started at 7 pm. My friend Bill and I played Amazing Grace after the bugler played Taps. The laying of the wreaths was very moving, but the most emotional part was when a letter home was read. It was dated June 10, 1968. After the reading, you find out that the soldier was killed in action, June 11, 1968.
I thank the Lord above for the veterans of ALL wars, and of the military in general. My father was stationed in Germany during Vietnam, and my grandfather was stationed at Los Alamos during WWII.
I wish I had pictures of these events. I keep hoping to find one or two. In the meantime, I am thankful for the meaningful ceremonies I find myself being a part of .. all because of the kilt (well... the bagpipes... but since this is a kilt forum.. )
