I've been lurking around the forums for a few months now, and I thought I would chime in and show off my first attempt at making a kilt. I purchased an Amerikilt about six weeks ago, and just last week I got a Stillwater Kilt as well, but I'm the kind of guy that always wants to try to make something of his own.

The colors of the school I work for are purple and gold, and I wanted to make something in those colors because we are planning on having a "wear a kilt to work day" in about three weeks. So I made a solid color purple kilt with one inch pleats and a gold underapron that adds just a splash of gold to spice it up.

I can't upload a photo, but I did post it to twitpic if you want to have a look

At some point I want to add a couple belt loops and possibly a cargo pocket on the side. I read over the directions for the X-Kilt, but I didn't follow them. I used them as a guideline and did my own thing. I'm really happy with it. It's not professional quality, but it isn't as bad as I thought it might be, and it's the work of my own hand (and sewing machine).
