Odd-looking "Desert Boots"

What says the rabble on these?

They have a different look to them that I can't quite pin down in my mind and I'm not sure how well they would go with kilt-wear. They ARE somewhere in between the nicer day wear brogues I own

and my casual hiking boots,

which is kind of what I'm looking for. Critique? Non-leather suggestions?

Bring back memories of my surfing days in the 60's and 70's. I personally don't see them as a kilting boot, but hey, if you like them go for it.
In Australia they were often referred to as br****l creepers (house of ill repute). I don't know why, but older gents always called them that.

I think the ones you've pictured are different because they're cut slightly lower than a standard desert boot.

They evolved from the standard British Army Desert boot (Chukkas) from WW2. You can read about the evolution HERE.

I've been shopping for a good pair of chukkas for a while now. They're really comfortable and look great with jeans, cords, or even, possibly, a kilt?

I purchased a pair of desert boots from Clarks in the sand color, this summer. They were the rage in the 70s, my formative years. George Lennon wore a pair on the album cover of Abbey Road.

My purchase was in mind to wear with my kilts at the Games. As the early fall the fields are rather dry and dusty, so they would fit the bill.

They would look at least as good as your casual hiking boots, maybe better.

IIRC there are 4 people on the cover of that album but neither is 'George Lennon'.

Perhaps George Harrison is who you meant--- Lennon IIRC was wearing a white suit with white shoes.

Yep, George Harrison is the one I meant. Memory is the third thing to go in the aging process. I don't remember the first two.
