    Kilted Cruise?

I'm going on a cruise for the first time in Jan. of 2012 and was wondering if anyone here had any experiences with kilts and cruises. I'm wanting to wear my Tank to the formal nights and had thought about picking up a cheaper kilt (read as Excuse to add a second Kilt) for lounging around the ship. Would like to know if anyone else has Worn a kilt on the cruise ships and the general experience of doing so.

My buddy has a kilt that he wears ONLY to weddings and the formal night on a cruise. He has always had good times wearing it. last year he was asked to sit at the captains table and the captain was quite taken with the kilt.

I don't have any experience, but my wife and I are talking about taking a cruise. You can bet I'll bring my kilt for the evenings and formal stuff.

    Thumbs up

On our last cruise I was kilted the entire time, Why would you want to wear trousers on vacation?
I took a pair of jeans to wear for one shore excursion that included riding horses. The kilts were very well recieved by all the passengers and crew, and got me a few perks along the way.

Can't speak from experience, but I can't imagine a ship being any different than anyplace else. Wear it and be happy. Besides, if anyone was to give you any crap, it would be a good excuse to initiate a man overboard exercise

Have seen lots of kilted cruise pics and stories posted over the years. Give the search feature a chance and see what comes up. Don't recall any negative stories about being kilted on a cruise.

That's a very cool thread link from Zardoz, not seen that one before. I do recall a great thread from McClef about his cruise in Norway which was most enjoyable.

I was thinking about another cruise before deciding on a land based vacation for this year. Part of the research was to join a cruise related forum. There are many many repetitive discussions on formal wear there, but I was shocked when I was told by some that wearing a kilt was completely wrong as it was NOT a tuxedo.

As an aside, has anyone had trouble getting a sgian dhu on board a cruise ship? I have heard that they are very restrictive on such things.

i have been on about 25 cruises and always prefer a cruise where it is not all buffet and you dine in the restaurant every night with excellent silver service.
I remember on the QE2 a few years back, where lots of men were kilted, one man from Stirling said to me that he had the full kilt outfit but his wife did not think it was appropriate to wear the kilt, he was almost crying as he told me this was a great opportunity to wear the kilt on the 4 formal evenings and that he had missed out.
One night on the QE2, i was in the toilet and another man said to me 'by the way you Scots are coming out of the woodwork tonight' referring to the number of kities on board. I replied ' well we did build her'

I have found that a cruise ship is a great place to be kilted and you are always well received by passengers and crew alike. one problem is that sometimes you hace to find some quiet corner of the bar to get away from the number of people who want to talk to you about the kilt.

yes go ahead and wear the kilt on the cruise, they are made for gents to wear it with pride
