New R.R. Bonnet Features & Colors- Your Input?

    Hello Folks!

Let me start off by stating that the Invisible Hand of Economics has moved, Adam Smith is well pleased, and for the time being- Our Hand Knit Bonnets have dropped a little in price:

    http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/knit_bonnets.htm

That said, our bonnet page is going to get a big revision soon, and we'll be offering several new colors for standard order, as well as a couple of new optional features.

Here's the new, darker shade of navy blue that we're planning on adding to the standard lineup. You can also see another feature that we're planning on making standard- the contrasting color band:

Here's our british khaki that many of you have seen before, along with the new cockade feature:

    And another view:

We're also planning on adding a rust color and a lovat green (the lovat green you see below has not been felted yet):

Finally, we'll be offering an external ribbon drawstring feature. Below, you can see a comparison between the internal and external sizeing options:

So, my questions to you are:

What do you think of the proposed new colors, and what colors might you like to see, but don't?

What do you think of the cockade, external ribbon drawstring, and dual color features? Are they something you might be interested in?

Thanks so much, and I look forward to your feedback!

    -Ryan

Ryan, the colors are great. Is it also possible for a guy (or gal) to pick a color from the yarn inventory at Virginia's Silver Threads and Golden Needles just down the street from the Gift Shop?

Cocade is cool, and so is the drawstring.

    Dual colors is a bonus.

I think your inovations are dynamic, and they all appeal to me.

Now, I have to choose a color.................

If anyone's in the neighborhood of the STM, they can certainly go down the street to the yarn shop and pick out their color in person!

And as always, if someone wants something special, Abigail and I are always willing and happy to hear about what they have in mind. If we can do it, we will!

I rec'd my Ryan Ross Bonnet in April in it's original design. Not sure that I'd want a cockade on mine. Just a personal preference. My Robert Mackie Balmoral "Clan Claus" Bonnet has a cockade and I like it that way.

I do like the new external ribbon drawstring, but I still like the inside drawstring of my R.R. Bonnet.

The contrasting color band could be popular and really make the bonnet customizable for the individual customer. I like the neutral grey color of my R.R.Bonnet. If I were to choose an additional color for a grey bonnet, I would choose black for the band (and the torrie) so the bonnet could be worn with 4 of my 5 kilts. Not ready to have a bonnet for each kilt.

I highly recommend the Ryan Ross Bonnet.

    Dr. Ross,
I like the external drawstring idea. Seems like I've seen it somewhere before.
Would it make life easier if you set up the order page similar to:
Step 1. Pick the bonnet color.
Step 2. Pick the band color.
Step 3. Pick the optional cockade color.

and have samples of the colors you're offering?

I must say, I'm not a fan of the cockade. I'd say leave that to Mackie, and let your bonnets be their own thing.

I hope you sell a truckload of them.

Will the cockade be optional? I prefer mine plain.

You've sold me. When it comes time to purchase a new bonnet, I think a plain black with cockade and exterior ribbon will be perfect.

A very nice addition to your already very nice work.

    Ryan,
I think I would like the cockade and external ribbon. I'm not big on the different colored band but its nice to have lots of options.

Also, what about making some in a cotton yarn? I really enjoy wearing the wool one I bought from you but during the summer it is just tooooo hot to wear during the day.
    Somebody ought to.

Cotton won't felt, and so you'd wind up with a funny-looking cotton toboggan instead of a nice, smooth bonnet.
