How big does a quaich have to be?
I am thinking of getting a quaich for myself and some friends to commemorate a special event. My question to the rabble: How large (i.e. dimenstions) does a quaich need to be?
Asked a different way, how much scotch can be held in a quaich? (isn't that REALLY the question???)
As I look through the infinite interwebs, I am having a difficult time visualizing the sizes. For instance, if the diameter from handle to handle is 7.75 inches and the "bowl" is 4.25 inches...what is the bowl? Is that the bottom part that is mostly flat?
Thanks!

I would say that the Quaich that is currently circumnavigating the global in our XMTS Quest of the Quaich is a nice size... It can hold the better part of a bottle of scotch, and it's very pleasant to drink from, size-wise. Although smaller would certainly work quite well too, if needed.

I don't know how big you want it to be Robertson (Pour1Malt) had this little one for the Ferintosh burns supper this year. Everyone took a sip before their speech.
Here's me with the Quaich before my address to the haggis

I'd suggest, just get a size that is convenient to carry along. It can always be refilled.

I might be asking an explosive question, but does a quaich have to be made of silver or pewter or any other metal? Couldn't it just as well be stoneware, ceramic, or even made of wood? If you knew a potter or turner who would be willing to trade something for a quaich, I think you'd wind up with something really special.

I have seen some made of various woods. So, I suspect they can be made from anything. I like you idea though. Is there anyone so talented within the rabble?
