Coastal Redwoods Today

Went for a stroll with my lass at the Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve near Half Moon Bay. Beautiful warm sunny day, and I was complimented on the kilt by a number of other hikers.

Dang, you're right. I just changed it to what seems to be a better one to a different site.

It was cool and moist enough under the redwoods that there were a lot of big banana slugs out among the ferns along the trailside.

Dale: Great looking outfit for the big woods. You look like a Scottish forest ranger. I like the blend between the shirt, hose, and shoes. And, the sgian dhub, ... or is that one of Rocky's new sgian brews?

I do have one of the latter, as it happens. Just the thing for my next martial-arts training trip to Japan, where a knife would be a definite no-no. This one, though, is a stag-antler sgian made by "our very own" Taygrd:

It is. Yesterday was Douglas Grey, one of Rocky's 5-yard 16-ouncers; but this one is one of Matt Newsome's 6-yard knife-pleated 16-ouncers and is probably my "most favoritest" kilt.

On the other hand, it looks like you're a good bit behind your lass. ;-)

Matter of a call of nature, which I was better prepared to answer than she would be in such a case. No worries, I caught up.

Our family has commissioned three Kingussie kilts from Matt, but at the moment there's some difficulty with Dalgliesh obtaining the thread. Can't catch the sheep I guess.

Oh, that explains it. I never have that problem anymore. When someone asks me, "What do you wear under your kilt?", I simply say, "Depends".

Ooh, that'll be sweet. One of these days I'm going to have to get a Kingussie made.

Douglas Grey - nice kilt. Looks very business like. I particularly like the brown accoutrement. I undoubtedly would have chosen black to match the kilt - no fashion sense here.

It actually took a conscious effort of will to NOT wear a black dirk belt (since I wasn't wearing the waistcoat) and sporran and go for dark brown instead. But I think the result looks better somehow.

And I do like Rocky's work, AND customer service. I had a 3-week rush on the order; Rocky wrote and said the particular fabric I wanted (Strathmore) wasn't in stock -- which was no surprise to me -- and had to be ordered from Scotland.

It still was right about 3 weeks from order to delivery.
