A BBQ in the rain...
Life's been a bit hectic of late so my wife and I were pleased to be invited to a BBQ with a group of our friends on Saturday afternoon. An opportunity to let the hair down and chill a bit. After cooking some fantastic local sausages under a gazeebo in the pouring rain (a good laugh if nothing else), we all enjoyed a very pleasant evening indoors. I was the only one kilted. No surprises there then.

I wore my 13oz wool Johnstone Modern Kilt pleated to gold stripe and taking a leaf out of J.Charles Thompson's book "So You're Going to Wear the Kilt", I also wore my new 1937 pattern British battle-dress jacket that I picked up on ebay last month from a vendor called Spearhead Militaria, a Canadian based outfit. It's a lovely jacket, very well made (in the far east) and looks great with the Kilt in my opinion. I have looked at the option of getting an original for some time but I've never seen one in my size so this one was the next best thing.

Sideeways view.

My wife and I, close up view.

Ah, the battle-dress jacket has arrived and it looks good! The cut of it works very nicely with the kilt

The bangers
Sounds great John. I love the local sausages, I have had a few in Northumberland that folks have told me are not to be found beyond about 40 miles of so. Can't believe in very warm Southern California, you would need a jacket like that in July

To paraphrase Mark Twain, the coldest winter I've ever had was an August in the UK!
Smashing John, you look simply smashing!

Beautifully made kilt! You wear it well.
I'm here in the other part of the world where we need jackets in July. Sigh.
