Phew, okay, I've jumped in and started making a kilt. Still kinda new to the forum.[/PHP] This one is 'practice' as eventually want to make one from the Nova Scotia tartan but don't want to goof on expensive fabric.PHP Code:

The fabric I'm using I picked up in Hong Kong at a fabric market. It appears to be 100% wool - did the burn test - and is about 8oz.(weighed it at work - I'm in the apparel business) The selvedges are clean finished very nicely, that's why I picked it up. The price was incredible - 5 yards double width for under $25.00!! Have searched online in numerous places and can't locate this as a tartan. If anyone can identify it for me that would be great - if not, I enjoy the colors - they are muted and give the appearance of a weathered or ancient tartan. Either way, it's practice.
So the question is about joining two pieces of fabric to make it long enough to complete the under apron. Where is the best place to make this seam? The pleating is complete and I'm thinking the best place to make a seam is at one of the two 'big' pleats right between the pleats and the under apron. Any suggestions?
Gotta say, this has been way too much fun!
Here is the plaid and where I'm at in the process.
