Ladies kilt jacket
SO, being the sort of lady who isn't often seen in a dress, I decided it was a sound idea to buy a kilt. Got a very lovely set of gear with one problem- I'm a UK size 8-10 in my top half and I can't find a kilt jacket anywhere that will fit me; even in the shoulders with a view to altering the body.
So, my current plan is just to get a second hand suit jacket from ebay and replace the buttons with small kilt jacket buttons (the large ones will look too big on the jacket I think), but I'm ideally looking for a better solution. having one tailored especially is out of the question because I can't have it done for less than £300 and I'm a student with nae money! I feel like I might be overlooking an obvious solution...
Any help would be great :/

Re: Ladies kilt jacket
The jacket conversion idea should work, there are plenty of threads here showing how it's done on a man's jacket. I think there are even some guidelines given for the type of jacket you should start with (things like pocket type/placement, side seam design, etc.). Sounds like you are in the UK so be sure to haunt the local charity shops, there have been all sorts of great finds reported (makes us U.S. folks jealous).
And welcome to the forum, from another female who doesn't wear many dresses!

Re: Ladies kilt jacket
I've been playing with the idea of designing a woman's kilt jacket.
Don't want it to look 'masculine', but still retain the Scots jacket flavor.
Regards aye,

Re: Ladies kilt jacket
welcome from Germany.
One thing that comes to mind, is a Spencer type jacket. These are cut relatively short and you can get one designed for women.

Re: Ladies kilt jacket
How about buying a quality chenille yarn and knitting yourself a bolero style jacket?
Done on slightly smaller than normal needles chenille can look very velvet-like and with long sleeves, perhaps with turned back cuffs, and the edges bound with bias cut fabric, quite narrow but sturdy enough to stabilise it, it could look very smart and not be obviously knitted.
