    Sending a Skype Message

I thought I would test this feature by clicking on the little skype icon which came up with the text "send a message to cessna152towser by Skype.
It invited me to choose an application so I chose Mozilla Firefox as I was browsing on Mozilla.
I was then hit with rapid fire tabs opening, after deleting three batches totalling more than 500 my computer crashed and I had to restart then as soon as I opened Mozilla it started opening multiple tabs labelled Skype and crashed again.
After two hours I have finally got back to browsing again following a System Restore.
I would certainly be very wary of attempting to use that feature again.
Do we really need it? Has anyone actually sent a skype message using this feature on xmarks?

I often use Skype video with family so they can see my little 8 month old boy and interact with him. This is great from my perspective, perhaps a simple list of Skype, aol IM, yahoo, etc. user names rather than hyperlinks would keep things stable, and it would be a simple cut and paste for those of us who may want to use Skype, aol IM, yahoo, or whatever.

Something I have noticed is that most users have their Skype button as grey. You might notice that mine is green when I am on-line. It can be changed in Skype > Tools > Options > Privacy > "Allow my on-line status to be shown on the web".

So every time I am on Skype, any member, not just friends can Skype me. I still have the option of changing my status (away, unavailable, off-line) and also of ignoring the call, if I choose.

The grey button means that they have Skype, but not necessarily that they are on-line or even that their computer is on. So it could be that you were trying to contact a computer that wasn't there.

As a side note, there are no advanced settings to the reply feature at the moment - they were there yesterday, but disappeared again.

    Regards

    Chas

Alex, where did you see the link to Skype? I think it may be part of Sype and not XMTS. Let me know where you saw it and I will try and track it down.

    Rob,

The Skype icon (for users that put it in their profile) appears under the name. You can see this on Chas' or Alex's posts among others. It's the little cloud looking thing. Gray with an X in it if offline or green with a check if online.
