A kilt for a little man

After thinking on it more, I would love to get my little 15 month old a kilt like dad.

Has anyone else kilted up their young? If so, do kilt makers make them in the super small?

Did you check out the ad to the right on the webite here? It seems www.babykilts.com might have exactly what you are looking for. Some adorable pictures, too.

We wanted our (then 8-month-old) daughter to have a kilt that matched mine when we got married last summer. Bonnie Heather Greene did an excellent job with a full-on real baby-sized kilt. We opted for velcro instead of buckles, as then we can adjust the size for a bit.

When my daughter was much younger, I made a couple of "kilts" for her simply by stitching pleats into a couple of tartan scarves and strapping them around her with a belt (over a custom onesie or T-shirt, usually). The result was cute and very cost-effective. Once she'd outgrown them, I removed the stitching from the pleats and reclaimed my scarves.

That leftover piece in the middle of a double width piece of cloth after your kilt is made might be just the right width to do it on the cheap...

We bought my 1 1/2 year old grandson a kid's kilt off the rack at our local Scottish Games here last Labor Day. We gave it to him for Christmas, but it was still a bit big and I never did get a shot of it when he tried it on. It should fit him well this summer when Games abound here in the NE US.

    Best of luck!

I am hoping to get mine and one for my son by Spring. That is a great idea to ask whoever I decided to make mine, if they would have enough left over to send me so I can throw one on little man. Thanks for the idea madmacs!
