What would you have custom made?
Just as a hypothetical...
Let's say you inherited a bunch of gold and silver jewelry after the passing of a loved one. You weeded out the valuable family heirlooms and meaningful pieces, and were left with several ounces of gold (in varying levels of purity from 10K to 18K) and several ounces of sterling silver. For the purpose of this exercise, let's say it was about 5 ounces of each. These pieces of jewelry are broken, missing stones, and otherwise useless in their present condition. Or they are comprised of things like old solid-gold dental plates which are kind of creepy. You've decided that selling them for melt value to a "we buy gold" place is not worth it, because you lose a lot of your value to the middle man.
Instead, you'd like to keep it in the family by paying a talented local jeweler/smith to make something new from it. Basically, repurposing the pieces by melting them and re-forming them into something custom and unique that you will enjoy.
What kilt-related accessory would you have made from it? Custom kilt pin, cap badge, pocket watch chain, etc.? Or perhaps something a little more unique and exotic? I'd like to hear your ideas. You know, just as a hypothetical...

well I sold my redundant wedding band and re-formed part of the cash into a custom sporran that I enjoy.

I should probably have made one of those magnificent elaborate kilt pins the Victorians were so fond of. You simply can't get anything of the sort today, at least not easily.

You might find some ideas over on Master Ark's page, which someone posted about recently:

Maybe a decorative fob to hang on the end of a watch chain?

I think I'd go for a clan crest ring. I've got a silver one, but if I had the gold like you've described, I think I'd get a gold one made.
