First warm day on this side of Winter. Kilted up in my 11 ounce Macdonald Lord of the Isles woven by Lochcarron and hand sewn by Kathy. My first hand sewn kilt made back in December 2004. Went up to our agency's Healing Grounds south of LeChee', Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. Sat with a friend and did some ceremony. Part of which was smoking Mountain Smoke in a traditional Navajo pipe. Shot a couple kilt pics too. Just over my right shoulder is Paria Canyon. The Vermillion Cliffs, where condors roam, is center background. And, the pleat shot. Leather jean jacket is from J. Peterman of all places.
Ol' Macdonald himself, a proud son of Skye and Cape Breton Island Lifetime Member STA. Two time winner of Utilikiltarian of the Month. "I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
What is this ceremony, Ron? I have always been curious about smoking and its relation to Nqtive American beliefs.
The Official [BREN]
Was just smoking "Mountain Smoke" - have no clue what that was. Visitor bought it at the trading post. She's an expatriot from Tucson living in Peru. She's home in Arizona visiting friends for a few weeks and I was lucky enough to make the list. She drew the circle in the dirt and we sat in it. She did some prayers and we smoked. Navajos use the Navajo pipe in sweatlodge and other ceremonies. Usually smoking mountain smoke to pray. Me, I was sending up prayers with the smoke and cleansing with the smoke but for sure no official ceremony. Just a couple spiritual folks connecting with the REAL world.
