Greetings from the Heartland of America.
Hello all,
I'm an Oregon native who now lives in a small town in Northeast Nebraska in an area where there are no, if very very few persons of Scottish decent. In my town I am almost completely surrounded by Germans. (oh there's a joke there somewhere :P )
My family immigrated to the United States in the early 1800s we have maintained little bits and pieces of our Scottish heritage through the years. We have our heritage traced back to the UK when we found the sailing papers from Liverpool where the trail goes cold. Family lore which suggests origin as Isle of Lewis but at this point who knows. Anyway my father, grandfather, and I often celebrated our heritage and regularly attended Highland Games and society events when we lived in Oregon. Due to a lack of events and limited time I haven't maintained those family traditions of late. I've attempted the pipes in the past but had to give up classes due to time constraints. That's definitely something I'm going to have to revive. Overall I look forward to meeting new people who share an appreciation of Scottish culture and customs.

Welcome from Florida! Funny you mention being surrounded by Germans as my son will be missing the Highland Games here tomorrow because he has to attend a German class with his wife. Her parents are German and the kids joined some German society and since he's already paid for the class he'll be missing the games. I tried to talk him into ditching but apparently he likes his wife and plans to try and keep her happy. Although, if she learns to cook weinerschnitzel, it won't be a total loss.
