    Redneck in kilts!

    Hello X-Markers!

I'm Joseph. I live in Golden, CO. Lived in MS and LA 35 years before moving here. I recently attended an Irish Fest in Littleton, CO and purchased my first kilt. Contemperary khaki colored from "Got Kilts". I'm a big guy 300 lbs but only 5'9". For now I'll be wearing these in a very relaxed look. I am interested in eventually venturing into some more traditional and formal looks also.

Last night I ordered 2 more from Sport Kilts (ninja black and black watch). I am looking for ways to wear them without embarrassing my family. I already have one daughter that is greatly opposed to it, and at least one other that probably doesn't approve. My wife doesn't seem to care LOT either way. But she also doesnt think I'll be able to work out a lot situations to wear them. Guess at some point they will also have to get some thicker skin. I bought some Dr Martens boots, and I will likely buy some military berets. There is a Scot Fest coming up soon and in Sept a big Highland Fest not far away. I am looking forward to the chance to wear these kilts, listen to music, and watch the highland games.

For now I've only worn the one kilt hiking. I love it. My legs have never been more comfortable on a walk. I am concidering that I will eventually treat this khaki kilt with oil and turn it into oil cloth for use in wet weather and maybe some snow hikes. We will see.

Glad I found this community. I love kilts and I'm a little sad they aren't more socially accepted.

I suspect you may find wool kilts are actually more comfortable for wet weather or snow hiking than oil cloth. In any case, welcome to XMarks!

Greetings Joseph from Golden and welcome to the XMTS Community. You'll find support here from those locally and afar that don the kilt. As one that has lived, hiked, worked, and went to school there in Colorado, I bid you welcome......

Welcome from the highlands of Central Massachusetts. Since getting my first kilt I have not worn pants hiking. Great thing, eh?

Joseph, a hearty greeting from Vancouver, WA! Used to live and work just south of you on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. Some great country in that part of the world.
