Diced hose colors
My wife is buying me a nicer kilt in the Clergy ancient tartan for my birthday in December. For New Year's eve, we are planning on attending a little formal gathering, at which time I would like to wear the new kilt. I was already planning to bite the bullet and order a new pair of bespoke diced hose, but I am unsure of what colors to get them in. I prefer simple diced hose to full tartan, and therefore that option isn't on the table for me. I thought about getting them in charcoal and ancient blue, but my formal doublet is navy in color. I want to try something to break up the blue, but what colors look good with that tartan? I have tried red/white and it was a look I don't care to repeat. I have also used red/black, which was a bit better, but still not quite a stunning combination. Does anyone have any suggestions?

After 11 attempts to register here under different names, we now have enough evidence to confirm that this is again Steven Aikens of Jasper AL. This time using an IP proxy in an attempt to hide his real location.

Sorry about that. I didn't think to be more specific.

From what I can tell, it is just blues and black. But like I said, I'm trying to break up the blue a bit.

Beware of looking like "little boy blue" with a blue tartan, blue jacket and blue hose. Complimentary rather than matching colours sound like a better way to go IMHO.

I'd lean to Claret/Black or Claret/Charchol Grey?
Or, I'd consider a pair of Josh Brown's Jacobite Diced with a Blue/Black or Charchol with a Claret over-stripe.
Here's a link. Have a look around. Some of the colour combinations on the various Hose Style pages might inspire you. I have a pair of their Split Diamond Argyles and they are a tremendous quality garment. Perfect fit, wash exceptionally well, no forest of straggly bits of wool inside, and in my opinion, the best value for money custom hose on the market today. A word of caution though, if you decide to purchase hose from SHO - order well in advance of your deadline and be patient. Also, if you want a perfect colour match, send them a sample, or very precise image of your Tartan. Better safe than sorry.
Patience is it's own reward in dealing with SHO. It's well worth the wait. I will be ordering a pair of SHO's diced hose once the wool for the custom c. 1800 MacDuff is dyed.

I purchased my diced hose from the Scottish Tartan Museum a few years back in Black and Red and think they work wonderfully. I believe that Skye Highland Outfitters and Keltoi both use the same supplier. The quality is exceptional. The good thing about going Black and Red is that they work with everything whether it matches or not.

That, friend, is precisely why I started this thread. I am sort of interested with the claret/navy and the claret/charcoal grey. I have a pair in basic red/black and they have worked so far. But if I'm going all in on a bespoke item, I want to try something a bit less "off the rack".
