    New tweed

I was recently given a tremendous deal on a tweed jacket and waistcoat. I don't typically wear a lot of purple and this jacket is certainly not all that subtle but the price was right and I figured I could make it work. This was the outfit I put together. I'd love to know what you think of the jacket and the outfit overall. It is hard to see in photos but the hose are bottle green, not black.

Wow! That is definitely a purple tweed, Nathan! I think that you are able to successfully pull it off. Would I be able to? Probably not. I would be so self-conscious about the colour, since I very seldom wear purple, that my insecurity would surely shine through. I tend to think large masses of colour (in this case the purple tweed) in the form of a tweed jacket, or even an evening doublet of some sort, look best when the tartan has a wee bit of that same colour contained in the sett as well. Yet, I also tend to believe that contrasting a large mass of colour with a particular tartan can also work, and I think you have achieved that with this outfit. Also, I rather like purple with green (I have several repp ties that feature both colours), so well done on the choice of kilt hose.

I think that it looks great! Not necessarily in my colour pallette, but you wear it well.

Nathan, I think you look great. Purple wouldn't be my first colour choice too, but at the right price I would jump on it too.
If you want to tone it done you could try different jacket waistcoat combinations, but there is no need to do that.

Looks really good on you. I'm no fan of the color purple, but you pull it off nicely.
    Thanks for sharing the photos.

Well, two things seem clear: nobody chooses to wear purple (which may also explain the "tremendous deal" Nathan got) and Nathan has done a great job with this unpopular color.

I think you can pull off the look very well. It may not be the most popular colour but to my eye the important thing is the way the entire ensemble is being worn.

I think the jacket fits you nicely and it's good that it came with the matching waistcoat because otherwise you'd be unlikely to find one. The purple in your MacDonald tartan helps pull the outfit together without being too matchy-matchy. I like how the look is very traditional, but that the unconventional colour of the tweed gives it a major dose of personal flair. I do not suggest, however, that you make that your go-to jacket. Knowing the rest of your wardrobe, I'd imagine it would best be reserved as a statement piece and/or for relaxed, fun situations, but perhaps it's not ideal for representing Clan Donald at a Highland Games tent

Panache is the only other Xmarker I can think of who has such a bold, solid colour tweed. You're in good company ith:

Great fit and I think it looks fantastic on you, but I echo the sentiments that I couldn't personally pull it off.

I know at least one XMarker who has a very similar jacket and waistcoat and wears it with his R'lyeh tartan kilt!
