New to this site but not new to my heritage!
Hello folks!
I just joined this site and was encouraged to introduce myself. I started attending the Grandfather Mtn Highland games in the early '70's with my dad. OMG--was it really that long ago? After the first visit, we were hooked. Thereafter, we ordered kilts and camped out the whole weekend each year. We walked from campfire to campfire in the fog during the night and shared yarns, beer, scotch, and friendship. Soon my older sister started coming along. Then my two older brothers.
Dad is gone, but now my brothers, my sister, my daughters, and my bagpiper nephew attend games together on both coasts. Macdonalds all! I'm so eaten up with it that I didn't change my name when I married and my girls both have Macdonald as their last name. ;)
I'm a Clan Donald life member and have made the pilgrimage to the clan castle on the Isle of Skye during my active duty AF years while stationed in England.
I look forward to making new friends and learning more about my past from this site.
Sláinte,
clmac

Well met clmac. I stopped going to the Highland games in NC when I moved away in the '70's. Welcome to the site from Oxford, MS. (a bit west of my Trinity-High Point, NC home.)

Hi Clmac. Welcome to X Marks. Glad you chose to join the kilted rabble and I look forward to your participation.
I too, was in the Air Force but, many, many years ago.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle.
